How I Travel with a Stroller on Rainy Days in Japan (with a 0- and 2-Year-Old)

— A real-life solution for moms without a car —

I don’t own a car, so going out on rainy days is always a challenge.
My 0-year-old daughter can’t walk yet, and my 2-year-old son is still too young to walk long distances.

After a lot of trial and error, I found a setup that helps us stay as dry and comfortable as possible. Here’s what I use.

What it looks like

Items I use on rainy days

1. Baby Carrier + Raincoat

I carry my baby in a baby carrier and wear a raincoat.
This allows me to keep both hands free, which is much safer.

2. Stroller Rain Cover

My 2-year-old rides in the stroller with a stroller rain cover.
It covers the stroller well and protects him from rain and wind.

3. Stroller Umbrella Holder + Clear Umbrella

I also attach an umbrella holder to the stroller and use a clear umbrella.
It gives extra protection and keeps my view clear while walking.

Why this setup works for me
• Hands-free and safer
• Keeps my kids mostly dry
• Works well in light to moderate rain

This setup has made rainy days much less stressful for us.
I hope it helps other parents who need to go out with small children—even when it’s raining.
